The safety industry in the realm of racing is a multi-million dollar business. Racers are willing to shell out thousands of dollars on all the equipment needed to make their rides safer during competition. Race cars are also required to comply with stringent safety standards set by event organizers. This is in light of the fact that when drivers push their cars to the limit, they never know what could happen and once they figure out that something’s wrong, in most cases there’s very little time to react. This is where state-of-the-art safety gears come into play. In the video below, we’ll check out a situation that has a Chevy Camaro hustling down the race track. Driver Brent Self clearly pushed the engine hard in an attempt to cross the finish line first at the Outlaw Armageddon No Prep in OKC.
Unfortunately, the Camaro wasn’t up to the task on this pass as it burst into a massive ball of flames! It appears that some type of liquid may have been laid down and caused the vehicle to slide and slither all over the track. The unsuspecting driver had no choice but to do his best to tame the raging car even if his consciousness was likely rattled by the blast. Click on the play button as Brent desperately tries to deploy the parachute but to no avail, leaving him to manually calm the muscle car down to a standstill and off the wall. He was saved by the fire retardant system but the Chevy Camaro looks like it’s going to need some serious repair and restoration to be able to return to the track at full force.
